is a Dr. Jean song -- it's to the tune of Shortenin' Bread:

"Everybody have a seat, have a seat, have a seat,
Everybody have a seat on the floor.
Not on the ceiling!
Not on the door!
Everybody have a seat on the floor!"

The kids LOVE IT!

Check out Dr. Jean's "All Day Long" CD for more songs like this!

You can actually download the songs you want from her website. All day long is a great cd because it has songs for every time of the day- AM Lunch, rules.. etc.. My kids love Tidy up and the Line up Cadence...

Piggyback Songs

I love the songs from the Piggyback Songs series. I have three of the books. I use one to single students to come to the rug. It is to the tune of Yankee Doodle:

Join us on the rug right now.
Find your special place.
Cross your legs. No wiggles please.
Show us your smiling face.

We sing it twice, and the students know they must make it to the rug before the song is over.

Here are a couple we use...

For Morning Meeting (to the tune of "Are You Sleeping):

Morning Meeting, Morning Meeting
On the rug! On the rug!
Everybody come, everybody come
To the rug, to the rug.

I got it out of a Scholastic book on Morning Meetings, just to give credit where credit is due.

Writer's Workshop (also to the tune of "Are You Sleeping"):
Writer's Workshop, Writer's Workshop
Come and see, come and see!
Look what we've been writing
Isn't it exciting!
Come and see, come and see.

Here's a link to an old post about walking in line songs/rhymes...

1.) To clean up, we us Jack Johnson's song Upside Down. The kids LOVE that song! It's on the Curious George soundtrack.

2.) To come to the carpet in the morning, I play It's a Beautiful Morning (the oldies version).

I also type the lyrics out and let the children put them in their song and rhyme books.

Any song!

You can use ANY song you want as a transition song! Once the kids know how the song goes, they have an idea of how long it is and how long they have to get cleaned up, lined up, on the carpet, etc. I have a CD that I made that has songs on it from 30 seconds to about 3 or 4 minutes depending on how long they have to get the task done. You can pick specific songs that you use each time so that you don't even have to say anything and the kids know what to do. Or you can just tell them by the end of the song they need to...

Any song is good. I like to use Charlotte Diamond's "Four hugs a Day". It's great for transitions and clean up. Children hurry and clean up before the song is over.

I also sing this song for carpet:

I am waiting, I am waiting,
Just for you, Just for you.
To join us at the carpet,
Join up at the carpet,
Right away,
Right away.

Line up song:

Our hands are by our side,
We're standing very tall
Our lips are oh so quiet
And we're ready for the hall.

I will make up songs as I go too...just for fun. I was never much a singer but now I do it all the time. It's amazing how it gets kids focused!!

I've posted this one before but it's my all time favorite ( I got it from this board originally )

Tune: Do your ears hang low--you and the children do all the motions)

Can you clap, clap, clap
Can you snap, snap, snap
Can you wiggle, wiggle, wiggle
Can you slap, slap, slap
Can you wrap your arms around yourself and give yourself a hug
Can you sit quietly on the rug
