Does anyone have a template page for 5 ways to write a number? Word form, expanded, place value blocks, standard-- and I feel like there is another way to write it!! Maybe put it in a place value boxes (thousands house/hundreds house!)
One year I got an idea from Mailbox magazine.
Make a kite and in each of the four corners students represent their number a different way. Kites were blue. Students were each given a three digit number. Then they wrote the number in standard form on an orange square and glued the small square on the bottom. Then they wrote the expanded form on a pink square ... you get the idea. We hung them up and the kids enjoyed.
I teach first grade and the children have to be able to complete a number collection box. They show the number in tallies (we only go up to 20 though),domino or dice, words, pictures, addition sentence, subtraction sentence, word, roman numeral, base 10 blocks. Does that help in some examples? I don't have a template though.
I have just become a member and was reading a question posted by Kaymills about showing a number 5 different ways. I looked at the reply by JME and Kellie 88 and used both their ideas to come up with my own representation of showing numbers in 7 different ways to develop an understanding of what that number could look like.
Unfortunately I am a new member and cannot add an attachment until I become a junior member. When that happens I will post my version.
