Reading and math. If they dont pass the test with a 70 they dont pass the third grade. LOTS of stress.

I know we can't have anything with writing on it. Although I like the Smart cookie idea. We just put some Ritz ers and Goldfish in baggies. They also get 2 mints.

Maybe we can come up with a cute saying to go with the fish and ers that they can remember during the test.

F-find the answer I-include proof S-Shade in bubble H-???

R-re-read problems I-include proof T-take your time Z-???

Kind of cheesy I'm sure someone can come up with something more creative.

I remember going to brain based training. We learned that lemon drops and peppermint were good for stimulating thought so we let the children eat candy at break. The sticky candy messed up the tests and they were too stuck together for the computers to grade!

I let the students chew sugarfree gum....some studies say it relieves anxiety thus aiding in concentration. The students love it!

Test Taking

I remember when I did my internship the teacher gave them the choice of peppermint flavored gum or peppermint dinner mints before taking the test. They also each got a baggie of trail mix before the test and a bottle of water to keep on the floor by their desk during the test. I will probably do something like that (if this school lets me).

mint stimulates

I also let my kids chew sugar free mint gum last year. I explained to them that the smell of mint stimulates their brains so they could keep it to smell or eat (of course they all ate it) but it was amazing how motivated they were by the gum. They did an exceptional job not playing with it & putting it in the trash at the end.
