Job Cancellation

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I have gotten two job cancellations in the past two days. One of them the secretary called me and let me know why - someone usually does when they cancel, but the other one was a 3 day job and I just got the automated cancellation email. No explanation. It's fine with me if the teacher found someone else, but I guess I am expecting too much of the teacher to let me know. Just another thing on my list I'm never going to do when I have my own classroom again! :-)

Just keep your head up and work on networking. You have the right attitude.

Not sure how long you have been subbing, but cancelations with no explanation are just part of the job. Got to just keep moving forward. That is how the game is played.

I've been subbing for 6 years and have only had a few -maybe 5 - cancellations without an explanation. I guess I am lucky. :-)

I get cancellations all the time, but normally replace them with another job the morning of or night before. Jobs get cancelled mostly because worksop dates for teachers are postponed all the time. Last year, I got a 2 day job at the start of the school year which was cancelled the day before. With the school year just starting, there may be more cancellations than normal since they are still trying to get organized for the year.

Also teacher schedules doctor appointment and she gets cancelled as doctor has emergency, so she has to cancel you. It is never personal, or teacher realizes (mid year) she needs to save her days for something else.

Cancellations are just part of the game. It stinks when they are on such short notice that you can't find anything else, especially at the beginning of the school year when not many jobs are posted. One thing I won't miss when I finally get hired as a teacher.
