We have been told about Common Core for two years. We are doing a transition year this year. We have been given copies of the Lang. Arts and Math standards, but know nothing about Social Studies or Science.

I want to do a pumpkin unit. I would like to conclude that with a trip to a Pumpkin Patch. What standards is that linked to? It used to be that I would say it connected to our curriculum because we study plant life cycles. Should I still say that?

We don't have the CCSS yet for science either. I don't think there are any yet. I use it for Life Cycles, importance of honeybees/pollination, transportation, weight and measurement, float/sink, and estimation. We write about them as well. You can cover standards in Math, Science, Reading, and Social Studies. You just have to think creatively!

Common core does not affect your state's science or social studies standards. The only thing we have been told to do is to blend those content areas into our reading and writing more.

I was going to write about life cycles on the form, but wasn't sure if I missed something with Common Core. We have a ton of new stuff being thrown at us this year.

We were just told in a meeting this week that Science and Social studies would be linked to the CCSS standards dealing with literacy /Reading. Understanding subject matter etc. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Good luck.
