iPads or Smartboard in k?

I also posted this on the technology board but thought I may get some input here too! I have the option of getting a Smartboard or a small set (5 or 6) iPads to use in my kindergarten class. I have one iPad now and would really like a Smartboard but our tech person thinks that Smartboards aren't useful in k because they are hard to reach for little ones, are touch sensitive and there are not many programs for k. What are your thoughts? I want to make an informed decision! Thanks!

I have a Smartboard and there is so much you can do with it.
I would go with that.

My classroom has a Promethean board and I love it! I'm able to do many of my lessons on it- our math program pages are online and all the resources I buy from TPT can be made larger than life. It makes it so easy to model for the little ones. I don't know what I did without one!

That being said, I wouldn't mind some iPads for my class either

Also my dad built a long bench for them to step on to reach the higher spots. Lakeshore has great games for it that the kids just love!

Love my Smartboard!

I would love the ipads, too. I've seen some great app for Kinder kiddos.

I love my Smartboard as well. We do our math and reading on it daily, we use computer games on it, watch videos, use it for centers...tons of activities for it!

I really thought that a Smartboard would be appropriate for kindergarten but started to have doubts when our tech person kept saying how it wasn't useful for such little kids. Thanks for the input!

...my Smart Board ever again!!

I am also pining for some iPads because I know there are awesome ways to use them in the classroom, but I KNOW that I love my Smart Board!! I use it for EVERY lesson in some way/shape/form.

In fact, this year I moved my easel/white board over to my guided reading table because I just don't use it enough when we are sitting on the carpet, since I use the Smart Board instead.

I am lucky enough to have both and I would definitely go with the Smart Board. As others mentioned, it can be used for modeling, direct instruction, calendar/morning meeting, content related videos, centers...
I like the Lakeshore SmartBoard activities as well. It seems like they're offering more and more each time I get a new catalogue. I also use websites like Starfall as a center at times.

I am lucky enough to have both and they both have their pros and cons. At the end of the day, I guess I would say the SmartBoard. With only a small set to share with a large group, it is not always functional. With the Smartboard, at least you can utilize it with your whole group!
