To Do in Galena, Illinois

DH is a bargain shopper and booked a vacation in Galena, IL for us through Groupon. So, what's there to do/eat in that town? We do have a two year old to entertain while there so it needs to be kid-friendly.

TIA!

My DH and I visited Galena, Il twice and stayed at Bed&Breakfast's. It's an historical town. They have a trolley that takes you around explaining the historical homes, etc. I remember shopping in the little shops downtown. I know they have a resort there now where you might stay. I can't think of anything specific that would interest a two year old. It's a popular place to visit, so I can't imagine it wouldn't be kid- friendly. Have fun!

The main street has a lot of little shops and restaurants that are enjoyable. There is a winery you can do tastings at. You can tour Grant's home. It is right on the river and there are some parks there. Biking, hiking, and walking are all available in the area. A lot depends on what you are into.It has some big hills to walk up but it gives you a nice overlook. We like Vinnie Vanuchhi's(?) for Italian food, but it a tradition, so not sure if you would. Most places have a menu outside to check out. If you like popcorn, try Great American Popcorn store, it is wonderful. Eagle Ridge is just outside town and is a decent resort that offers some family things to do. We've been going since the kids were in womb and always found things they enjoyed. If you can go in fall, it is a beautiful drive and the town is decorated for the season. It will be crowded on weekends!

There's an alpine slide your 2-year-old might like! We also went on a short cruise of the MI river. http://www.chestnutmtn.com/activities_alpineslide.cfm

My mom used to go there all the time with friends, and I've been a few times, but not done any of the fun things. I hope you have a great time!
