Does your class do an activity where all the parents come in? My grade does not but I want to change this. Just wondering what you do. Was thinking of having an author's tea??

Thanks

What you mean is, you will invite all the parents to come in.

Good luck.

I do a Middleeast dinner and invite all the parents. I also invite them in for our play and our rainforest Keynote presentations. Oh, and to listen to the students' fractured fairy tales.

Living Museum

I did a Living Museum after our Biography Unit. It was well-attended by parents and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I also invited a kindergarten class in so there was plenty of people for my kids to talk to. Some parents got into it and some were just there but my students loved it! I did it at the end of the day so the parents could just take their kids when it was over.

Gallery Night

We do a gallery night for each of our three trimesters around a culminating project. Some in the past have been Native American Museum (5th grade teacher then), Movie Night (Kids made a Bill Nye type movie for Science), Biographies ---Wax Museum or just various projects if different classes did them. Poetry Slam was another one.

We usually set it up during the day for the other classes in the school to go through and see everything, and then have it for an hour or two in the evening. It gives the kids a real audience for their work and they have always been well attended. We've done it for a dozen years this way...and most grade levels do it...often on the same night in various locations in the buildings.

I used to do a multicultural thanksgiving feast. It was so much work. I did it for years!!! Have not done it in the last 4 years and I'm so happy!!! We do have what's called parent engagement and we invite the parents to come to school after the kids leave and we show them a specific topic..like how to use a math rubric or how we teach a concept..etc
The first time 2 parents came, then 2nd t ime 0 parents came, this Tues is the 3d time... we'll see if any come
