Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hi all!

This will be my 2nd year teaching, last year was 2nd grade but now I will be new at teaching 4th grade. I am going to be working in a charter school, where I am the one who needs to create curriculum. They use an online math program but as far as science, social studies etc - does anyone have any good reference books I can buy to use as I go through the year? Or any great online references to help me plan for the California Standards?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I teach 3rd grade in Indiana, but when I googled Scope and Sequence for my grade level...MANY sites came up with examples, some blogs, some textbook companies, some school districts. You might try that and then create one using components you like.

I group Social Studies and Science ones by theme and teach whenever I want. Example: ones related to plants in the spring when we can use the school garden...Geography with Folktales so we can look at culture and place together.

I am not in California, but I teach fourth grade. We are starting the Next generation Science Standards. Here is the link for California:

Fourth grade science is more in depth than second grade. You may want to start here.

As for Social Studies, check out your state standards for info.

This should get you started. You can find a lot of information online to each standard.

I use Social Studies weekly newspaper for my curriculum. You can purchase a class set that is made for your state. You get 28 weeks work of newspapers (I never get through them all) along with worksheets and a guide.

I appreciate the help - I will look into that as well. Sounds interesting to use that approach.

One particular school district has a complete year's worth of reading and writing lessons online. pretty sure they are based on Lucy Calkins' units of study. (It looks like they don't have anything for 4th grade Science or SS).
