Change of jobs... help?!?!

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I realize I'm not doing what I truly want to do in life. After watching Oprah one too many times :-), I realize that I should start setting goals and try to change fields. The only problem is that no matter how much I research, I cant seem to find my way into the field. I was hoping that I could post a "help plea" on here and someone may be able to help. The one thing that I want to do is to work with terminally-ill children. My degree is in education although I have had experience caring for a terminally-ill teen (she was my best friend) and would like to pursue the field to help others. I have wanted to do this for many years and kept putting it off. If anyone has any leads as to where I could look, who I could talk to, or anything... I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you!
Amelia

Amelia,
Before I decided to become an education professional, I was pursuing a degree in nursing in order to work with terminally ill children. One place you may check is St. Jude's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. They hire teachers to teach their long term patients.

working in a childrens hospital as a child life specialist. They provide activities and bring games, toys, etc. to children who are stuck in the hospital. I'm not sure what type of education it requires but it sounds like an education background would be a plus. Just an idea!

Amelia I understand where you are coming from. I did 4 years nursing but have not kept up with my registration. I have a Masters in education and am studying Master in Teacher Librarianship now. In Sydney the Librarian at West MEad Childrens Hospital has opportunites of working with sick children. She supports the doctors in ward rounds, providing search material and there is also a childrens library. Althoiugh it is not exactly what you are looking for it is another avenue where your expertise and compassion for sick children can be beneficial.
