SmartBoard online training

Can anyone recommend an online training or resource for SmartBoards?

I will have one in my classroom next year and have never taught with one before.

As far as I know, it is the only SmartBoard in our building (I think someone wrote a grant for it).

I will be teaching middle school Life Skills (self-contained special ed).

Ask your tech person or whoever installs it and knows about it to give you the code so you can install the software on your laptop at home. It's like having a mini smartboard at home. I did that and taught myself how to use it over the summer. It may oome with an instructional piece (almost sure) but if not, you tube how to use a smartboard. You will love it!

I do all my plans on my "smartboard" at home.

Definitely install the Notebook software on your home computer.

A Smartboard isn't anything more than a huge touch-screen computer monitor, so it's really nothing major to learn. I use the Notebook software for most of my things, but it works equally well with anything else.

I had the first Smartboard in our building back in 2006 or 2007, and the school sent me to a business college to do a training for one day. Honestly it wasn't anything I couldn't have figured out on my own just playing around with it.

Teacher CEU Toolbox

There are a bunch of videos on Youtube that could help. The biggest challenge is usually learning how to orient the board. That isn't something you can practice at home. However, the others are right - most of the learning curve is in the software. I wrote a professional development course called Smartboard101 a few years ago. It is housed within the Teacher CEU Toolbox. If you are interested in getting continuing education credits and are willing to pay or have your district pay for you to take the course that might be another option. It is about $50

Here is a factsheet:

P.S. I don't receive any $$ for recommending this. I was paid a one time fee when I wrote the course.
