For those of you who use EM, do you go in the order of the modules or mix it up? I've seen in a blog, mixing it up but cannot find it anymore. If you do mix it up, can you tell me which order you go in and why.

I'm not sure how the modules can be mixed up because they all build on each other.

Clip to ScrapBook #3

My team of 8 kindergarten teachers did not feel as though the EM module order made sense at all. We switched them around slightly to better suit the needs of our young learners.

Mod 2
Mod 1
Mod 3
Mod 4
Mod 5
Mod 6 (6 is a great way to wrap up the year, but I wish this module was longer.)

It's really not that big of a switch, but we did find it made a world of difference for our students. Personally, I found it to help students feel successful with math lessons and our math block in general. So many kindergarten students come in knowing at least a few basic shapes. So launching them with something somewhat familiar hooked them in our math block. We are able to access geoboards, shape blocks, color and shape bingo, color the shape activities, and using our Magna-tiles right away.

It also made more sense to us (as a team) to butt mod 1 & 3 together.

Anyway, people seem to either love or hate EM. I am not a fan, but I can respect those who find it useful.
