Lack of jobs before break

There are/have been no jobs for this week, the week before break, and I was wondering if it is pretty normal to have no jobs, or if they decided I wasn 't working enough or something and blocked me from the school. I haven't worked since the first, but I did see something the 8th (I let someone else take it, I had plans that day, but I did see something. So I have been taking that as a sign there's just a shortage of jobs right now?). I shouldn't be concerned (I haven't done anything wrong other than not subbing more than once/twice a month) but I somewhat am.

I'm subbing tomorrow for a friend who requested me. Otherwise, I'm going to be picky. The high school has finals, so there will be nothing there. The middle school will be wild (know from 20 years of experience there), so I'm really not going to hunt down any jobs. Subbing seems to go in spurts. Worked four days last week, but only the one job this week.

Naw, it's a slow week for sub jobs across the nation. Not too many teachers are calling off when they know they have an upcoming week vacation off.

They're going to try to save their sick/mental health days.

Jobs on my end have been scarce this week so far.

No jobs for me this week yet either, and that's basically after working everyday since the end of October, minus the three days we had off for Thanksgiving. I honestly agree with subasaurus---teachers may be trying to stick it out this week knowing there will be an upcoming holiday vacation. I already have a few days booked for January. Rotten for lack of pay in the first January pay period, but this happened to me last year so I had already tightened my budget accordingly to account for the possibility of it happening again this year. Our school district has multiple building subs in each of the 3 school buildings too, so any scant jobs would have been immediately absorbed by them. I opted not to become a building sub this year because my children are still at home and that position wouldn't allow for the scheduling flexibility I have as a per diem sub.

For me, I am still seeing a lot of jobs for this week before Christmas break. Many teachers are traveling far to see family, and taking off for the week. However, it was very hard getting jobs back in Sept and Oct. Subbing was slower to pick up here this year than ever before, but I think teachers were just saving their personal days.

December has been very busy for me...tons of demand for subs where I teach. Maybe because school continues though the 21st and teachers need more time off before Christmas.

In general, not many teachers take time off before some vacation time. In fact there are rules regarding this matter, taking time off before or immediately after. Things will pick up.

It's often slow

just before vacations. My district has three weeks off, so this week is VERY slim pickings. They have even given into reality and have vacation start the Friday of the last week--not nearly enough subs to run the schools and many kids gone as well if they hold classes.

It does make for a hungry January since there are only eight days to work in the pay period and four of them just before the vacation. Subs are the last consideration when making school calendars.

Donít worry ~ usually slow at this time, as well as just after break too.
