We have several teachers retiring...looking for ways to say thank you from the staff. Any ideas or thoughts out there?

We always do a large reception for our retirees. A good gift would be a large piece of pottery or pewter platter from a group of people.

We gave each retiree a simple white rocking chair. Each chair had a plaque on it. Each person seemed to like theirs.

Wow! That is a nice gift. I got a $3 plant in a 99 cent pot and a couple of hugs. I suppose it was the best they could do on such short notice (1/2 day ).

In the past we used to give our retiring teachers gifts that would match their hobbies or personalities. For one teacher who wanted to take up gardening after she retired, we all pitched in and got a huge basket with all kinds of gardening tools, seeds, etc.
Another teacher was going to start fixing up his house, and we got him a gift certificate to a home improvement store.
Then there was the teacher who got seasons tickets to the local theater (I confess it fit her personality since she was always a drama queen ).
One teacher was going on a cruise two days after retirement, and we got him a small Bon Voyage cake and a nice travel bag with lots of things for travel, like a flashlight, cruise journal, luggage tags, a mini umbrella, a couple of books, etc.

How about a group of people pitching in to help clear the classroom? Carry boxes to the car, dismantle bulletin boards, that sort of thing. I don't think I'd make this the whole gift, but it could be a really helpful one.
