I was sad when I looked at the gross amount for 2009. What a huge difference from last year when I was a full-time teacher. Substitutes in my district do get paid much more than other districts and parts of the US but still.. My W2 haven't been this low since I was a receptionist making $8 - $9/hr.

That would be an interesting thread if we all confessed our gross... Between my 4 districts, my second job, child support, my daughter can still get reduced lunch... Maybe I should add a gig on a freeway ramp with a sign: "Sub teacher, please help!"

Somehow I thought it would be more. It is pretty sad. I like the comment about standing on the highway, though! We should get t-shirts made that say "Will sub for food"!

Yeah but that would require the use of valuable, aka, non-existent funds.

I did a long term for 3 months so mine was about the highest I have seen and it was $13,000. You have to remember those 3 months off though. DH said we should be divorced so I could file my own return and get that EIC credit! HA

I made the equivilant of working 52 weeks a year at minimum wage.

Apparently if I were totally supporting myself (I still live with my parents because I'm attending school) I would qualify for welfare...

My W-2 came today. I just started subbing in August, but still... not quite $1,100. Ouch. I knew it was bad, but didn't realize it was that bad. Well, that and a bunch of other things this week have convinced me that this is not the profession for me. I'll sub if they call, but I'm going back to full-time free-lancing. I can't afford to teach...
