Clip to ScrapBook #1

I'm looking for a picture book to use in first grade to demonstrate that writers write about normal, everyday experiences. For some reason, Shortcut pops into my mind but it's been a looooooong time since I read it. Any good suggestions out there???

Clip to ScrapBook #7

The Paperboy by Dav Pilkey
A small moment story about a little boy and his dog waking up early to complete his paper route.

Saturdays and Teacakes
Can't remember the author - a boy spends the day with his grandmother, working in the yard and baking together.

Peter's Chair by Ezra Jack Keats
A sweet story about a little boy coming to terms with his new baby sister. Definitely an everyday kind of story though.

The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats
A little boy enjoys a snow day.

I would also recommend one of the Arthur books (Arthur Writes a Story?) - all about how Arthur can't decide what to write about for a school project and takes everybody else's advice until he learns to follow his own inner author...

Maybe, The Day the Relatives Came by Cynthia Rylant. Perhaps it's too hard for first grade though.

Lester Laminack (not sure of the spelling) wrote Saturdays and Teacakes. I got to hear him read it and speak at the teachers college at Columbia a few years ago.
