Reading Response Picture Books

Hello! I was wondering what would be some great picture books for 4th grade to read aloud? I want to model an appropriate Reader's Response-maybe starting with connections-like text to self...make sense? TIA

This story is about a boy who receives a hair cut for the first day of school and does not like the way the haircut turns out. It turns into a sci-fi story with the dream he has about going to another planet and seeing a special barber who can fix his hair. Anyway, it is a very cute story and most students can relate to having a bad hair cut before.

I will attach the graphic organizer I use with this story.

is another good picture book to read for self to text connections. Almost every child had done pretend playing as well as building forts or play houses. This one can help them reflect on earlier childhood pastimes.

will work for anyone who has a brother or sister. The book is also great for teaching point of view. Not a great choice for only children though.

These are some of my favorites for 4th graders, too. Cynthia Rylant and Jane Yolen also are great authors for demonstrating "show not tell" and excellent models for narrative writing.
