Digital Projector

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hello all, I'm looking for ideas on how to use a digital projector in my Kindergarten classroom. I had a smart board in my classroom for a couple of years but that was 5 years ago. I lived without one for the past few years (it was hard!) and now my new classroom has a digital projector. Any advice, tips, tricks, lessons, etc. would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

do you have a document camera attached to a projector that will show objects, papers, work sheets, and manipulatives?

You can model writing, demo work sheets, show student work and edit/revise as a class, model math concepts with manipulatives. Shared reads are easy using any book and a pointer. Stick on colored highlighter tape can be put on any book to show initial sounds, familiar chunks, etc. You can also swing the camera toward the class and show them their behavior projected live and large.

Here's some ideas off the top of my head...

>Make powerpoints or find some online for any lesson.

>Project books on the screen, Do a google search for free ones. Download the Storia App from Scholastic and you get some free ones for joining.

>Buy an interactive game from Lakeshore. Have teams tell you the answer and you click it on your computer.

>There's lots of youtube song and story videos for anything you can imagine. We're going to watch the old Johnny Appleseed cartoon in September. I use many songs from Harry's Kindergarten in first grade too.

>Download any image, worksheet, map, etc. you find online.

>Check to see if your math program has an online component. You can project workbook pages and do them together.

Like broomrider said, it would be even better if you have a document camera.

I scanned all the student pages of my curriculum using the highest resolution and love being able to put them up on my marker board. It really helps the students to be able to see where I am on a page. All those freebies from TPT are projected on my board, too.
I also have some powerpoints to match certain lessons.
I can play all sorts of videos and my class really enjoys gonoodle.com.

When I taught kindergarten, I used my projector everyday. I used it to show PowerPoints, with a document camera, with interactive white boards, to demonstrate writing, and also to show dvds, youtube videos, etc.
