I moved to first grade after 13 year in kindergarten.. The transition will be effortless because, you know exactly where to begin. You will grow along with your kids. I had to get used to having desks in my room when I really wanted tables. I used them to my advantage. I posted a chart with my students labled "This is what belongs in my desk' and we generated a teacher approved list. Inside desks to this day is only teaching and learning materials and no junk. Inside desk matereial include, a pencil box ( that too has it's own chart), reading response journal, writing journal, poetry notebook, math journal, 100 chart in a sleeve with a bingo chip inside, dry erase/magnetic board, current basal reader and a small math container where items inside change due to teaching focus. The desk top has on it a name tag with a 100 chart, 0-20 number line, alphabet with picure cues, color and shape words etc and I have a ten frame large enough to use unifix cubes with permanently affixed to desk top. This has been very helpful to teach personalorganization and also to have everyone ready to begin lessons and activities at a moments notice.
