mystery poop

Ugh... this just happened to me the other day:

I was subbing in a 1st grade class the other day, and everything had gone rather smoothly all day until the final 10 minutes... suddenly several of the kids started to scoot their chairs away from a spot on the floor. I went over to look and several of the kids started saying they thought it was poop. Now, I didn't actually get down on my hands and knees and sniff it, but from what I could see, it was definitely a small amount (about a tablespoon full) of poop, and a little bit of urine?! There was also a spot or two a couple of feet away on a carpeted area (for reading time). All the kids then started running around shouting "virus!." I had another teacher call the custodian for me while I tried to restore order as well as attempted to locate the "depositor" (I failed). After the kids left, and I was talking to several of the other teachers, they all said that they had smelled something in the hallways. Strangely enough, I never smelled a thing. I'm guessing some parent had quite a surprise that afternoon!

Anyone else ever have an experience like that?

This is too funny. This isn't the first time I've heard of "mystery poop". My friend taught preschool for a while. She found a mystery poop one day. She too could not find the culprit. Thank goodness I've never had that problem. This is why I like kids to be a little older and able to hold their poop.

stay away from that dread "virus". I'm trying very hard to find a "teachable moment" here, but can't stop laughing.

a river of pee from one young girl leading to another during story time. Both had wet undies from what I could tell. Who did what? Who knows? They went hand in hand to the nurses office....

Could be worse, though. At a MS at which I sub, menstrual fluids have been smeared on the girls' room walls. Yuck!
