Thanked by the Principal

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I've been working with a very difficult first grade class the last few days. These kids are all over the place and act worse than kindergarteners. They can't even walk in a quiet line in the halls. I was on a mission. If they learned nothing else these few days I was with them they would be able to walk in a line when I was done with them. Well, we were walking down the hallway yesterday and they were really starting to get the hang of the line when the principal walked by. She asked how my day was going and I told her LONG. She seemed concerned and asked if everything was alright. I'm sure she knew the reputation of the class. I told her were were working on our hallway behavior. She complimented the kids on how they were doing. The kids were so happy.

Today I came into the office and the secretary hands me a note. The principal had written me a thank you note about "holding the students to high expectations". I couldn't believe it. Someone noticed and cared enough to say so. This is my sixth year to sub and I've never gotten a thank you! Sure the teachers call me back to sub again and are happy when I can work for them. This is the first Thank You note I've ever gotten and it's from a principal! I think tomorrow I'm going to go in and thank her for her note. Teachers get recognized for things at school quite often but the subs are usually forgotten as soon as they leave.
