Clip to ScrapBook #1

I FINALLY finished setting up! Good thing since kids start Wed. Back on Tuesday for Superintendent's Conference Day, but at least now I can focus on curriculum and stuff for first week!

I will attach a series of pics to the thread! Thanks to all who shared ideas and pics of their own! I used many of them throughout my room! Hope you all enjoy!

First pic is of my attendance/lunch count board.

On Location board
Old 09-05-2009, 05:05 AM

Clip to ScrapBook #2

This is my "On Location" Board--I use this so I know where kids are at when they are out of the room. If there is a fire drill or emergency evac. I pull the scene signs down so I know who is out of room.

Kids also know if someone is in bathroom since only one boy and one girl are allowed to go at the same time (bathrooms are all the way down the hallway!)

These are the kids closets---two kids share one closet. I put the stars with their names to make it look like a dressing room of sorts.

The library pocket holds their "Rave Reviews"---this is what I use as rewards. Every other week on Friday they can shop for prizes.

Bravo clapboards for teamwork
Old 09-05-2009, 05:18 AM

Clip to ScrapBook #10

These Bravo puzzle clapboards are for teamwork. Each team has one puzzle divided into 10 pieces. Each time they are spotted working well as a team (we talk about what that means and looks like)---they can earn a puzzle piece. When they put their puzzle together they earn a treat.

I do need a Movie theme related title for this---if anyone has any ideas, please share!

This is the Celeb of the week. Each day there is something special for that person. On Mondays,we create their BB. This is set for me right now---the other half will be my co-teacher's side. She just hasn't gotten to it yet! In a few weeks we start with the kids. One kid per week---takes me through June!

You have an awesome classroom!
How long have you had the Hollywood theme? Would you mind sharing your job titles and descriptions? They were too small to read. I am switching to the Hollywood theme and I would love to find out what other people are assigning for the job of producer, director, etc.

I love your room! It's fabulous! I changed to the Hollywood theme this year when I switched to 4th grade! I see that you found the printables on teachersclubhouse.com too! Aren't they great?! I noticed that you changed the job titles and added descriptions on the bottom. Would you be willing to either share the cards or let me know the jobs and descriptions that you came up with? I have changed mine that I printed from the website twice since school started 2 weeks ago already to try and make them work for my room.

Thanks for Feedback!
Old 09-07-2009, 06:39 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #32

Hi all! Thanks for the feedback!

This will be my 4th year with this theme. I usually change it up, but I have so much fun with this one that I can't! Plus--because a lot of decoration stuff wasn't available 4 years ago--I invested a lot of money into what I have and used the computer to create much of what you see! Kids love it too---they look forward to being in the "movie room!" !

Anyhow--
I "modified" the Teachers Clubhouse job doc---don't ask! Took me forever! I needed it to work for my room and also needed additional jobs. So I used the blank and created some of my own and modified some of what I purchased. I thank Teachers Clubhose a million for the idea!

Here is what each say. I know from messages I received it is hard to see what is there.

Props Manager (Mailboxes) Fills mailboxes with HW/notices

Script Supervisors (Paper Passers) Passes papers out to other class members

Stand In (substitute) Takes job for any absent "stage crew"

Lead Actor/Actress (line leader) Leds out class in hallways setting good example for other members

Cleaning crew (housekeeping) cleans our "set (classroom) esp. at end of day or after indoor recess

Publicists (messengers) run errands and deliver important messages

Technical Advisor (telephone) politely answers classroom phone

Production manager (morning tasks) takes care of student check in and lunch count

Assistnat Director (teacehrs Helper) helps directors (your teachers) with extra tasks as needed

Script editors (rename the date) Finds equations that are equivalent to the date. Also finds the factors of the date

Key Grips (Recycling crew) move the recycling bins into the hallway and back in

Grip (Door monitor) last in line. Closes door and lights on way out

Extras (no specific job this week. Fill in as necessary and rotate into a job soon.
This is underneathe the actual stage crew sign for me---since it wouldn't fit on it!

The name in parentheses above is in parentheses under the "movie job title"--just above the black line. I put the decription of the job underneath the black line.

The kids names are on the same rectangle. I just took job title and description off, shrunk the size of the rectangle and added the child's name in red.

Someone asked about my Rave Reviews.

As far as Rave Reviews go--it is just a rectangular ticket (says Rave Review). I hand them out when I see a kid doing something I want to encourage in others ("i love the way Jack is _____! Congrats! You earned a RR") or to encourage them to do something ("I will hand out RR to the first 5 children I see....."). Each child has a "Rave Review Pocket" on his/her closet. They store them in there. This goes on for two weeks. At end of two weeks they can shop if they choose or save. There are levels---3 RR, 5 RR, 10 RR, 15 RR. Each level has different "prizes" with best ones being at 10 and 15. I used SMARTnotebook to capture a pic of the sign and pasted it into a word doc. That is attached. I will attach the actual RR into a separate post since I can only put one thing up at a time. Believe it or not, I have some kids save ALL year and end up taking home 40-50 RR at the end of the year! Wacky! Others can't keep more than 3 in their pocket at once! ! Most save for things like a No HW pass or a free Scholastic Book pick, or lunch date (with a friend) with the teacher.

Hope that helps.

davfam5---Goodie Bags & binders
Old 09-07-2009, 06:49 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #34

Hi--hope this is not too late! I have been out of the loop a bit this weekend. Lots of BBQ's!

THe Goodie bags have a movie topper pencil, some bookmarks, a 4th graders are #1 pencil, A sign language pencil (I teach my class sign each year), a pair of sunglasses, a clapboard key chain, a "Star Student" lollipop and a Hershey Bar with a wrapper that says "We're Having Some Reel Fun in 4th Grade" with m,y name and the year underneath and a real cute thing with ingredients, etc. If I have peanut allergies I wrap Twizzlers. They are very cute!

The binders have an array of things in them---lunch menu, specials schedule, clas list, Grade level directory, copy of our class newsletter, kids spelling list for week---all in clear plastic sleeves. There are some pages in the front describing what is in each sleeve. Then the HW Agenda book, the Reading logs, and A Resourtces section where I photocopy writing resources for them to reference at home. I copy things as they are introduced in class and we add to this section all year. If you google "STAR binder" you should find the document I started with to modify. It is a takeoff of Moose Binders and I just can't remember where the STAR one came from.
