Looking for a Pen Pal

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hi,

I will be teaching 3rd grade this year, my first year teaching I am really interested in having a classroom penpals. I think it would be great to help teach communities, weather, and writing skills. I will be informed in about 2 weeks the exact number of kids I will have. I have been told 18 to 23 max.

We are in Florida and would love Penpals from across the country and maybe somewhere where the weather is different then here I would also like to do snail mail - I think the kids would love it.

To assist with costs of mailing I am requesting each parent provide 15 stamps for their child with their school supplies this year for penpals and state postcards

Let me know
Jessica

Pen Pals...

I, too, am really interested in doing pen pals this year. I am also a new teacher... Has anyone else done pen pals and had much luck with it? I've subbed in elementary schools where they have a World Map on the wall with push pins/string from the letter/post card to where the letter/post card was sent from.

I hate to start something and have it fall through the "cracks"... Any suggestions from you experienced teachers on implementation of this activity? Do you tie it into Social Studies?

Best wishes,
Ms. L

I would love to have penpals for this year. And I would prefer snail mail. Our technology isn't always what it should be Plus, I would like to have the students get excited about our "Friendly Letter Format". I'm sending you an email from "IL". Florida sounds perfect.

I've seen the map/postcards done with a theme like "Flat Stanley", where a character visits students' relatives around the States and sends postcards to the class. Is this what you are thinking of?
