Texas is an open carry state. How do police identify a shooter? Prayers for everyone!

Unfortunately, this is the norm and will continue to be the norm until drastic measures are taken.

Prayers to the victims and their families.

There will come a time when mass shootings are accepted as part of the price we pay for the American "freedoms" we all crave. We seem to think we're helpless to stop these shootings. I'm saddened to hear of more lives lost. Deeply saddened.

Oh no. Speaking of this, there was a very recent shooting (and also 3 dead) at this Garlic Festival in my state. I've never been to it, but I like going to certain festivals/fairs. There was also a stabbing at this year's fair at a county fair that I've been to a few times. That's the 1st I've heard of something like that there. Times are getting scarier!

For a long time now before shootings became in abundance, I try my best to go to public places when it's as LEAST crowded as possible since the higher the crowds, the more chances of things possibly happening. My thinking wasn't always that way. I just always thought the less crowded, the more pleasant. Plus, gunmen like wreaking havoc in highly populated events/areas. So this is all the more reason to avoid going during peak/high crowd times. I know I can't always avoid crowds, but I try my best if I can help it.

They're saying he's from Dallas area, an hour's drive. So sad and so scary.

I was in a Walmart today and kept scanning the crowd for anyone suspicious and I hadn't even heard of the second shooting at that point! Super sad state of affairs!

I was in Walmart yesterday and there have been many problems at the Walmarts in my area. I thought about that on the way in. Sad isn’t it?

My prayers for the families of the dead and injured, first responders, and medical personnel. When and what will it take for the U.S to change?

They are reporting 19 dead and at least 40 injured.

Having been the victim of a murdered loved one, I understand the amount of lives affected by just the senseless loss of one. My heart and mind can’t begin to understand the circle of lives affected by such tragedy.

These moments bring floods of memories to me. It is happening too often.

ETA: the number keeps changing- it has gone down

What is wrong with our country? Another home grown terrorist with access to those awful assault weapons. We need legislation to ban them! Sorry, but if the babies at sandy hook did not move these politicians, nothing will. They DO nothing...ranting, but I am angry.

The shooter drove from Dallas, TX to El Paso , TX (Texas is HUGE). I looked up the distance. He drove 635 miles, 10 hours 45 minutes in moderate traffic, to murder strangers.

Odd that he drove that distance, unless he planned on having no chance of being recognized and then planning to drive back to Dallas?

I already find myself checking out where the exits in stores are located, some of which are hard to find, especially if one is not near the store entrance or on a 2nd or 3rd floor of a department store.

Yep. Have been for a while, I think.

So, where was that good guy with a gun who was supposed to step up and save the day?

I've been avoiding big crowds for a while - festivals, big concerts, sporting events, malls. But it's hard to avoid going to Walmart. I was actually at our local Walmart when this shooting happened and heard about it when I got home.

We’re definitely already there. He’s from Plano, but it doesn’t say he still lived there. If he did drive, it was to get to a border town. The manifesto claims that this is a patriotic act in response to the “hispanic invasion” of Texas. It was a hate crime, plain and simple.

Texas is an open carry state. For those who promote being armed, lots of good that did.

Sensible gun laws...NOW!

I just read that he was there shooting for 20 minutes going down the aisles. He even shot some adults/ children fundraising outside the store selling water.
