The Governor and Superintendent of Public Instruction just announced schools are closed until the fall.

Probably just the first of many. Unbelievable times we're living in.

If I had to guess, it will be a bit longer. I pray the medical community can come up with something soon. My kids want school.

I felt it was coming. I am relieved and disappointed at the same time.

My daughter just shared that with me. She is super bummed and very hopeful they will actually open up in the fall. I'll never get any work done at this rate...

I think we're right behind you in Oregon.

We are closed for the year, but next year starts in early August for us. If we are still doing this in August I will lose my mind.

Just clarifying
When you say closed, do you mean no distance learning?
What about if your school year starts in August? Distance Learning until September or will start in September?

All the states seem to be so different.

In WA we will be doing distance learning through the end of the 2019-2020 school year. No word yet if that is our original end date, or June 19th, which was the date they originally moved the end of the year to when they thought we'd do makeup days.
Re: starting next school year, Inslee & our state superintendent said it will depend on how things look when we get closer. So no answer on that, and the door open for possibly starting next school year with remote learning somehow.

There are, I think, 12 other states that have already announced similar closures.

To add to WGReading's post and happykids' question, Washington typically starts in September (or very late August for the past few years- on 8/30 or 8/31). So at this point, it looks like the school year is planned to start in person around its typical start date (depending, as WGR said, on how things look at that point). Someone else on PT posted that their state cancelled in-person classes for the year and had plans to start the new year remotely as well. I can't remember who or what state that was.

And yes, WA is not the first state to make this decision.

Iím in Washington state and this is my retirement year so this feels extra strange! The governor and superintendent of public instruction mentioned the possibility of having some special ed students come to schools to receive services. Canít imagine how that would work and how they could justify possibly exposing students and special ed teachers to Coronavirus.

I apologize for not saying it was in classroom at school sites that was closed. Distance/remote and online learning will continue. That will be difficult as not all districts are equal. My nieceís children have only received work packets as their district doesnít have 1:1 for students so they are using their own chrome books and iPads for online sites.
