Does anyone know of picture books that are good to use in an economics unit?

Alexander Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday is adorable. And you can turn the plot into a math problem to solve as he spends.

Also A Chair for My Mother by Vera B. Williams is a good choice for the topic of saving.

Check out Beth Newingham's classroom economy unit on the Scholastic website. There is a whole section of book suggestions. Here's the link...

I hope this helps!

The Toothpaste Millionaire

I use The Toothpaste Millionaire by Jean Merrill. It was first published in 1974 and was even made into one of those afterschool specials (I use to love those as a kid!) I think there is a new addition that was published in the last few years. It is timeless even though it is 30 years old. The author must have been a progressive thinker. This is an awesome book to teach economics to kids in grades 3-5.
