Has anyone participated in this with their class? Did you find it engaging? Would you do it again?

I've done this project with classes years ago. The students had fun with it. I'd do it again, if I could figure out how to fit it into a very full schedule.

I'd love to use this project! However, my school has a strict nutritional policy, and even if the students don't eat them, I would feel bad wasting them after the project.

Just a vent...I understand that students need to be healthy and that junk food should be kept to a minimum, but I hate all of these policies! Again, I know the importance of healthy living, but I think all of it good, educational, engaging things can be done with food in the classroom!

Thanks for your replies. It does seem like a project that's doable, and it fits into the curriculum for the beginning of the year. As for the nutritional aspect of it, we aren't that stringent about it, so I'm not going to worry about that. Ballmom I'm like you. I hope I remember to register. I sent myself an email to my school address, so maybe seeing it there will remind me.

I got my whole grade level to participate. I created a homework project packet. Students get it on Friday and return next friday. They post their results on a poster board and share with class with lots of colorful pictures.

We've done it for like 4 years straight. The kids love it. We do a different one each month!

gd2bqn,

What kind of other projects do you do? Do the students complete them in school or at home with their families?

Thanks!
