book club question

My club choose The Art of Racing in the Rain for our current book. It just came out in the movies. I'm reluctant to read it since i can just go see it. What do you do in a circumstance like this?

Movie vs. Book

Read it. The book will be different from the movie. Suggest that your book club meet and see the movie together then you can talk about the differences.

I always read the book. Always. There is no way a movie can incorporate all of the details in a book. You also miss the wonderfully worded pages the author crafted if you just watch the movie. For fun my club will go to a movie after weve read the book and well discuss the multitude of discrepancies in the movie. Sometimes major changes have been made. A book and a screen-script are two different things. I bet youll love reading the book.

Very few movies capture the beautiful language of a good book. Yes, a well done movie can get plot-character-setting, but the joy of words and nuance are important to me.

I like trasies suggestion to read it then see it with your book club to discuss both.

That is one of my favorite books..

I hope you read it before seeing the movie. In my experiences movies condense the story and leave out some of the small moments that make a book so enjoyable.

Like the others said, read it first. It's a lovely and easy read. I can't imagine how a movie will do it justice.

I belong to a books to movies club. We read books that have recently been made into movies. Afterwards we will see the movie. The books are almost always better. The only time I thought the movie was better was when we read Lady in Gold.

Movies rarely follow books exactly. I would definitely read the book. Otherwise, you should belong to a movie club!
