Who's Karen?

Okay, this may be a ridiculous question. It's possible I live under a rock.

On social media, I've seen a lot of posts that say "Go home, Karen" or "Stay in your lane, Karen".

Who's Karen?

BTW, when I was little I desperately wanted my name to be Karen.

Karen is a generic term for a irritating entitled white woman, usually a baby boomer.

At least ten years ago in his heyday, Dane Cook had a sketch about every group of friends having a friend no one likes (and if you're saying your group doesn't, it's you). There was a whole bit about it and the name he used was Karen. I've always wondered if that's where it stems from as that was way before any of the recent "Karen" stuff. Just a guess though!

Yep! And I am a white baby boomer ( just barely....end of 1963) but I sure hope annoying and entitled don't apply, haha

Btw....my best friend was also named Karen and there were 4 of us in my 8th grade homeroom. However, in 34 years of teaching I have never had a student with that name. I heard Karen was in the top 10 list of popular names in 1954 and I was born in 63. I think by about 1975 no one was naming their kid that anymore.

Thanks for the explanation! I was thinking it was from a TV show or something. Twin mom, I am so sorry!

I have 7 Karens in my contacts. They are all delightful, well mostly.

At one time we had 4 on our very small staff.

Itís funny how names cycle through the generations.

Karen is also the name memes often use for "that lady" that wants to speak to the manager.

"Bye, Felicia" was used in the movie Friday--and a gal that the guys didn't want to hear from was leaving so one of the characters said that in a funny tone (meaning, don't let the door hit ya....) and now people say it meaning, good riddance/go away.

FYI: Kyle is the male name that is used as the guy who's going to Area 51, does karate chops on concrete blocks, and drinks Monster energy drinks, etc. (DS's best friend's named Kyle, so he always sends him them)

Iíve never heard about the Karen thing. I have actually said that I have never met a mean Karen. All of them have been very sweet and nice. I thought maybe the ďcareĒ at the beginning of their name made them just a little nicer than other people.

Huh. That must really suck for people who actually are named Karen. I've only known one. She was one of the kindest people I've ever met and she definitely was not white, irritating or entitled.

I plead guilty to being a boomer and I most likely am irritating to some people. I'm only part white and I really don't think I am or act entitled.

Some of my best friends are named Karen! And not a single one of them fits that description.

That was a new expression to me- I only learned about it on PT somewhere a few days ago!

I actually had to look this up last week.
Now, I don't feel so bad.
I took the liberty of passing on this information to my husband.
The Memes are hysterical because they use the name "Karen."

Interesting. I have never heard that or the Kyle thing! Our oldest is a Kyle but he's never said anything to us about that.

I guess it's pretty obvious I'm a child of the 80s, because the name Karen always makes me think of the little sister from the Babysitters Club books

Which, speaking of, btw, I'm really excited about the new Netflix BSC series that should be coming out soon

On the forum Reddit they have sub forums dedicated to Karen and Kevin. Some posts are hilarious some not so much.

One post was on Karen returning items to Costco, which has a super lenient return policy.

She was returning a gallon of organic milk, which originally comes in two gallon package. She had left one gallon in her car, in Dallas Texas, in July when the temperature was above 100 degree F. She forgot one gallon when she carried the milk into her house. For a week.

Her complaint was the milk was spoiled. Yes, that is a Karen move.
