Small town....news travels fast

The local fire department is one street over from my house, so I hear the sirens every time something happens (not often...itís a sleepy little town).

Heard sirens behind my house a few minutes ago. Also saw a fire engine coming down the highway in front of my house from the town to the west. Checked Facebook...fire is a block away on Main St. At least six local departments have been dispatched. Street is closed. Must be a big conflagration.

Itís been pouring rain all day...maybe that will help some.

Amazing how fast the news spreads!

Small town facebook is so efficient at spreading news. If I see or hear something unusual and it's not on my town's fb within 5 minutes I'm so disappointed The other night I was woken at 2 AM by massive thunder claps. Just for fun I checked fb and there were already 5 posts about the thunder and video of the lightening.

Facebook is how I found out if the bypass I took to school everyday was closed due to weather or an accident. Itís saved me being stuck in traffic or having to take an unplanned detour many times.

I found out the house across the street from me was on fire when I checked FB after being woke up in the middle of the night.

FB is my go-to news source.

Social media does have its disadvantages, but keeping your community informed is one positive! I hope the fire has long been extinguished and I hope no one is hurt!
