Former student

A former student was just arrested for homicide. Allegedly he stabbed someone. He has a twin brother and I had them both in 3rd grade. He is now 22. They were nice boys, but didnít seem like they had any support from parents. Work was rarely turned in. I vividly remember one week they said their parents were out of town and an older sibling was watching them. There was a huge increase in amount and quality of work turned in. I tutored them, a parent tutored them, they were so low. I hope his brother has fared better in life.

It sounds as if he has had a difficult road in life.

Commit murder as well 5 years ago. Drug deal gone bad. Same as you, bad home life, no work turned in. He was very smart.

I believe heís serving a life sentence. So sad.

That is so sad. I'm sure it was rough to hear that. It makes me so sad to think of what "could have been."

I hate when I see kids ruin their lives. Every now and then itís a kid who had every advantage and didnít appreciate it, but most often itís a kid who essentially had to raise himself.

There was a set of twins in my elementary school class. The mom raised four boys my herself, and they struggled. They never were strong academically. They were in my class from first to sixth grade, and the next six years we never had any classes together. One dropped out and ended up in prison for murder. He ended up dying in prison during a fight, i believe. His brother is a deputy sheriff. Hopefully the twin brother is a success story, too.

This is so sad! One of my former students is wanted on capital murder charges. I had him for two years when he was 8 and 9. Heartbreaking!

I remember a girl I had from my days as a regular teacher. She had a positive attitude and was a great student, and at the time, I was sure she had a great future. About 15 years later, her name turned up on TV and in the newspapers. I'll skip the details, but she was found guilty of negligent homicide in the death of her child, and she spent several years in prison.

There was also a boy I once had who had some learning and behavior issues, but I was sure he'd be all right. Years later, he was found guilty of assault and is currently in prison.

Yes, it's true they are no longer our students, but when this kind of thing happens it's a very uncomfortable feeling.
