nervous about a job interview

So...here's the deal - I applied for a kinder position at a school I've worked at for years (in an after school program). I am very familiar with the teachers and the new principal, who encouraged me to apply. I received a call today asking if I would like to come in to interview on Wednesday. I am very nervous and also do not know if I really want the job because kinder is so out of my element. Oh, this would be my 1st teaching job, besides subbing and student teaching.

Here are my questions:
1) What are some questions that will probably be asked?
2)Should I expect to teach a mini lesson, even if I wasn't told to prepare one?
3)Is it a good idea to take the job to get my foot in the door despite being unsure of really wanting to teach this grade?

Good luck with your interview. Given the job market, I definitely think you should consider taking the job if it's offered to you, even if kindergarten is not your first choice. Many districts shuffle around teachers every new school year and you might find yourself in a different grade by the following year.

Many districts will ask you to present a demo lesson before hiring you but they would give you some time to prepare. It shouldn't be at your interview!

I think it's a great sign that they know you so well and the principal himself encouraged you to apply. I wish you the best!

Some questions I have been asked recently are:
1) What is your teaching philosophy?
2) Describe your classroom management plan.
3) How do you motivate your students?
4) Describe a balanced reading program.
5) How do you plan a lesson from beginning to end.
6) How do you meet the needs of ELL students and gate students?
7) What are your strengths/weaknesses?
8) How would you involve parents?
9)How would you meet the needs of Special education students who are mainstreamed into your classroom?
10) How would you integrate technology into the classroom?
11) How will you use the state standards?
12) Describe your homework policy?
13) What techniques will you use to connect students prior knowledge, life experiences, and interests with learning goals?
14) What methods will you use to asses student learning?
15) What methods will you use to assess student learning?
16) How will you organize your curriculum to support student understanding of subject matter?
17) How will you create a classroom environment that engages all students in purposeful learning activities and encourages constructive classroom interactions?
18) How will you differentiate instruction?
19) How will you continue to grow as an educator
I have been on a few interviews lately and I am compiling a list of questions. I haven't got a job yet but I am determined to be prepared for my interviews. I hope this helps.

I was once asked, describe a lesson that went well and how do you know it was successful. Also, what qualities will you contribute as a staff member?

You won't be asked to teach a lesson without any preparation and YES, take the job if offered! No matter what grade you teach, your first year will be challenging.
