Do you own a Kia?

After researching, I'm debating on trying out Kia Sportage or Sonento. They are about the same size as an Escape but the newer models are more within my price range for a new car than an Escape.

Do you like your Kia? Are they expensive to fix? Would you recommend a Kia to your friends?

My mom was saying she thought they were bad cars. But I see many Kias out and about.

Did I say how much I hate car shopping?

I've had a 2007 Kia Sportage for 3 years. I like it, I've never done any major work on it. Now, with 2 kids under 2, it's a tight fit. I remember when we got it, it had better reviews than the Escape on Consumer Reports.

My mom, who always bought Ford, got the Kia 2 years ago because it was so much cheaper with more features than Ford. I think it is the Sorrento. No problems, and it is under warranty for repairs. She likes the backup sensors and camera, which were standard,I think.

I had a Kia

I had a Kia - I got rid of it about 5 years ago. I bought it nearly ten years ago now, and kept it simply because I couldn't afford to get a new car. It needed fixed often. Most of the time it was under warranty, but it still meant that I was without my car - which is just inconvenient. And somethings, even if they aren't a normal maintenance thing just aren't covered... I will never buy a kia and I will never recommend them.... BUT - I do hear that they have improved a lot.

Good luck!

I have a 2006 Optima. I'm very hard on this car - as in will go wayyyy over oil change time, don't get tires rotated like I should.....
I had some kind of belt replaced a while ago (which it was time for) and I think that's the most work I've done. The headlight bulbs seem to go out more than the usual car, but other than that no major issues. I'm at about 121,000 miles.

I could never buy a Kia because of those stupid hamster commercials. Worst commercials ever.

my daughter has a Sorrento bought it new 2 years ago and LOVES it and I must say it rides and drives really nice. She has had no problems so far and customer service when she goes in for oil changes and such have been great.

I have a 2011 Sportage. I love it! It's roomy (I don't have kids) so my carpool buddies were comfy. It's easy for my parents to get in and out of. It handles well in the snow. It was about 10k cheaper than the Ford and came with gps, satellite radio and a back up camera. I have had a recall on it and a broken fan. The fan was under warranty.

All that said, DH bought a Subaru Crosstrek a year ago and we LOVE that! It was the same price as the KIA, gets better gas mileage, but is a tiny bit smaller and doesn't have satellite or the back up camera. I would love to have one.

The April car issue of Consumer Reports magazine available free at your public library for a comprehensive view of the recent Kia model vehicles. It's the most trustworthy and reliable source out there. You can also go to ConsumerReports online, but that requires a personal subscription. It's a wonderful resource. I am currently using it in my own new car search.

I had a 2011 Sorento. Every time I turned around, something else was going wrong with it. It was under warranty, but it got really old not knowing what was going to happen next. Such as one time different lights came on and started flashing, and then the car wouldn't go into park! I had to have it towed on more than one occasion! I will say their roadside assistance program is great, but it's a shame that i had less than 36,000 miles on it and had used roadside assist. many times!

I traded it in last year, my payments now are a little higher, but so far it has been much more reliable and dependable!!!

I have. 2014 Kia sorento and I love it. It rides nice, no problems, I can go 5000 miles between oil changes. Lots of room and not bad gas mileage. It is so much better than my mini van! It is fun to drive too.

My DH has a sorento and loves it. He has had it for about 4 years now and he is rough on cars and has had no problems at all. One of my coworkers has one of the Kia hamster cars, she also loves hers and has had no problems.

We have a2003 Kia Sedona minivan. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles. The a/c doesn't work any more and something happened to the rear heating. We also have a small 4 for sedan. I actually can't remember the name of it. It is also a2003. That one has no issues.
