Anyone have fundraising ideas that they have used that worked well. I am at a loss and I want to raise money to bring a program to our school. Any suggestions are wonderful! Thank you!

Last year was our first year to do a ReadaThon. We made $14,000! And the best thing is that it goes completely to the school - no overhead paid to a company. Our kids have a 2 week period to read and get sponsors. We do all kinds of fun things - today is our Book Character Day and next Friday we have a reading magic show at school and then a Family Fun Night with a hot dog dinner and another magic show. We had our local high school's drum line and cheerleaders come and kick it off last week with a pep rally. If you PM me your email, I can send a copy of the packet with the parent letter, reading log, etc, that went home. We get local businesses to sponsor it for the cost of the magic show, fun night, etc. So pretty much all we make is profit for the school. It pays for our online AR, RAZ kids, Brainpop subscriptions.

We do a walkathon. Also, quarter auctions have become very popular in my area. Mostly churches and community events, but my sister told me schools up north do them.

Could you host a Spirit Night at a local restaurant and a percent of each receipt goes back to the school. You could also do a community talent show. Or, you could do a discount mattress sale. Or drag queen bingo at a local dive bar (the band at my school did that and made a ton of money) . Or you could sell school shirts and school merchandise like jewelry and car magnets.

My very favorite is our used book sale. Kids donate all of their used books, and then we have a huge sale and sell them for 50 cents to a dollar. We get about 3-4000 books donated each year! I love being able to clear out our bookshelves and refill them for cheap!

free option that brings a little $ in (not much):

Box Tops for education
dinner nights (go to restaurants in your area & set it up, usually they'll donate a % of whatever anyone orders, pizza places are the best but Chilli's I think did 20-25%)
Walk-a-Thon
Then look online usually Target/SPIRIT have free easy ways too.

We do Candy Bar sells but it's A LOT of work but it brings in a TON of $.
