one day I would be a grandma of a little girl. About 5 years ago, I bought my cousin's sweet granddaughter a "treasure trunk of Disney princess dresses". (5 total) Priced 19.99. So reasonable. She loved the dresses and played with them until they were worn out. I am now looking for this same item for my granddaughter. I did find the Frozen princesses at Kohls for 24.99--2 dresses total. On ebay, the same item of five years ago is now 89.99. (not that she isn't worth $89. I just never thought I would ever be a grandma.)
I think I will go with the Frozen since it is so current.

*initially I placed this on thread about BioAdopt Mom

They mark that stuff up so much because they know that it sells. It's ridiculous how expensive it is. :roll eyes: They take advantage of all those desperate grandmas and aunts who just want to see the joy on the kid's face!

Wait for the after Halloween sales. You can get dress up costumes for 70%+ off.

We went to lots of

garage sales and bought bead necklaces, clip on earrings, slide on bracelets, heels or sparkly shoes (only if they were in really good condition, any kind of frilly dresses, skirts, etc. as long as they were cheap. Most of the stuff made it through three girls. We kept a big plastic tote for them to store it in. When it was no longer needed, we donated what was still in good enough shape to the local theater group.

Oh, we also lucked out and a theater group in another town was selling some of their surplus and a dance scool was getting rid of costumes. We got lots of good bargains.

Just throwing out some other options you might want to consider. We used clothes pins and rubber bands to make some of them fit, but they loved them all.

thanks Heidi! Those are three princess dresses. I want this for a birthday gift for her. I knew when I bought that for my cousins granddaughter I made a score. Now I know how big it was. And it was a gift she used over and over.

I may also look at the Halloween costumes after the holiday, too.

Consignment store?

What about a local consignment store? They would have cheaper costumes now and really cheap closer to Halloween. I've found some really great buys at consignment sales and DS doesn't care if someone else has used it first.

When my DD was younger, I wanted to buy her a dress up trunk, but they were so expensive. So I decided to make her a dress up trunk. I found costumes after Halloween, cheap princess ones on-line and in store. She used them for years. I had them in storage for a couple of years, and when we moved I sold them to a grandmother for her GD.

My mom used to work at a childrens clothing store. She said there was a whole category of clothes they called "grandma clothes" because they knew only grandmas would spend that much $$$

Sam's has had an item similar to what you are talking about the last few years in the Christmas toys. It was also similar in price. I bought my DD one. Check there.

Do you sew?
I have not made any of them but I keep seeing pictures of Disney dresses and aprons on Pinterest.
My GD is 8 weeks so I figure I have a bit of time before i have to get sewing but I think it is doable.

I was just going through the little trunk I bought my GD two years ago. She has really outgrown it and I was considering selling it on ebay. I got it from The Christmas Tree Shop where they have little dresses at a great price. If you can't find something for your GD there, PM me and I will let you know what I have.

It is about 3T-4T in size. Hopefully you can find one at the store though. The one I bought had 4 different princess outfits in it.
