Book suggestions

When people make recommendations on PT for books and I think the book sounds good, I check it out from my library. If my library doesn't have it, I make a request for the library to purchase it.

So far, every purchase has been approved. Except my most recent request. Her Name Was Rose. This was the response I got for this one:

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, this item has not been reviewed by a professional source or is poorly reviewed, so it will not be added to our collection. [2]

That’s interesting. Maybe someone wise decided your library has a glut of this genre. I liked the book, but it would be easy to live without. And I’ve decided I’m not reading another book with “gone” in the title.

Our library is soliciting title suggestions on NextDoor for a city-wide read. You should see the books popping up! Everything from The Bible to Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire to my excellent suggestion.

Ditto. Also titles with "girl" in them unless it's an actual girl.

Many people are reading lots of mediocre and just plain badly written books because they show up on the cheap or practically free Amazon list for Kindles.

When books are recommended here I look on amazon for more description. If it something I think I'd like to read I check my library and reserve it. We have a large inter-library loan program with the newer books available on line.

I stopped reading this book after twenty pages.

IMHO, not for me or well-written.

I like to follow friends on Goodreads whose reading tastes are similar to mine. It's helped so much! Btw, my book club recently read Where the Crawdads Sing, and we ALL gave it 5 stars. It's an interesting story that's beautifully written. I would sometimes just pause to reread sentences because the words were so perfectly strung together. You might want to check it out.

for a long time for this book through the library app, Overdrive. I do all audiobooks and can't wait to listen to this one! Right now I'm #17 on 15 copies and the hold was placed the beginning of Jan! Nice to hear it will be made into a movie! I'm also waiting to get "Educated" by Tara Westover and The Mars Room by Rachel Kushner based on recommendations I've seen on PT.

My other recommendations for what they are worth, some I've also seen recommended by others on PT. I mostly listen to fiction. I'd love to hear any other recommendations or authors you love. This list is too long but I'm obsessed, what can I say?

Becoming

Pachinko
Clock Dance
Eleanor Oliphant
Before We Were Yours
Their Eyes Were Watching God
