Zoom or Google Meets

Our district wants us to use Google Meets during Distance Learning. Ok, I can deal with that. But every PD session they have held the past week have all been on Zoom. We need more practice with Meets, but it seems even the district agrees Zoom provides a better experience.

We'll see how this goes with daily Meets and students.

Hmmm, I'm feeling kinda sassy this morning and the first thought that came to mind reading this is.....
'Do as I say, not as I do'. How hypocritical.

Sorry I was not any help but I sympathize with you.

We were told to use Google Meets with Kids for security and FERPA reasons, yet Zoom was used for our faculty meetings and such. Someone asked this question and they said they didn't mind using Zoom for adults, but with kids, they felt safer with Google Meets.

Funny. My district is dropping Google Meet and telling us to use Zoom. I donít know their reasoning. I just work there.

That's interesting because Zoom CAN be really secure. Medical offices use it for appointments!

Meets

We were told the same...Meets only for us due to security.

From what I understand Zoom can be secure and HIPPA compliant for medical visits due to a premium version that I know my district doesnít want to pay for since we are already a Google district. However, the same thing happens with us...some adult meetings are with Zoom!

Same here. We were originally trained on google hangouts and then about 2-3 weeks in last year, told to switch to zoom for everything. Once I got the hang of it I do like the lay out of zoom better. At first it was annoying to switch because on google you can schedule/invite right in your google calendar, which we already use for everything. Now that I've used zoom so much I can schedule really quickly on there as well-it just seemed like a lot of extra steps at first.

And I LOVE the zoom filter . My skin looks so good with zero effort/make up. I put on a little mascara and brush my hair and I look like I really tried for the day .

We were required to use meets

when we first started doing distance learning last spring. Well, we started out doing zoom, and when they had their privacy issues, we had to switch to google. We all hated it, so we switched back. My son works for zoom, so I like using it because I have someone to call if I have trouble.

We are supposed to use meets, but I know waaaayyyy less about that than I do about Zoom! Screen sharing is a big deal for me, bc itís the easiest way to give kids one-on-one help!

I guess itís comforting to know that other districts are having similar issues.

I prefer Zoom.

I wish we could use Zoom, my district uses it for all of our trainings but has it blocked on all student devices. Zoom offers free education licensing through our state doe if the district applies but ours won’t.

We are required to use something called Big Blue Button that the district pays for and to say it’s awful is a complete understatement.

We are able to choose which platform we want to use. Our technology teachers recommended Zoom over Google Meet for a few reasons:
-you have a waiting room on Zoom so you can see who you are letting in
-you can see more students on screen with Zoom
-screen sharing
-breakout rooms
