8th grade book gift ideas needed

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I have four young ladies and one young man that are graduating from the 8th grade and continuing on to five different high schools. I've become very attached to these kids, I'm their literature teacher AND their student government advisor.

I would like to give them each a book that they will read and want to keep. We've read a lot of classics this year (required) and they've really enjoyed Twilight and many of the contemporary writing that's come out recently.

I've thought of two that I loved as a middle/high schooler (soooo long ago) - Mrs. Mike and Up a Road Slowly. NO CLUE for the young man. There must be some other great ideas out there!

(I'm going to post this on the reading/literature list, too, so I apologise about that ahead of time!)

Help! And thanks!
Chris G.

You could try some of the chicken soup for the soul books. I have taught 7th grade and 8th grade and many students like that.

You could also give them a journal and encourage them to write their own book. You could include a bookmark and a pen to get them started.

Harry Potter books are a good choice as well. I have read all of them and so have many of my students.

Fallen Angels
Hush
Redwall
Hatchet

You could also try some of the classic novels that are in graphic novel form as well.
