Just wondering...how many of you all participate in your school's "dress up" days? Tomorrow we're having a "PJ Day" to celebrate "Read Across America". I never know if it's "teacher appropriate" to participate in these dress up days, you know?

Everyone at my school participates! Even the principal! I say go for it. Take a pair of regular clothes just in case no one ends up dressing up. you can be dressed for a little while then change.

I always participate! The kids get such a kick out of seeing the teachers dressed up. My favorite is Book Character Dress-Up Day-I always go as Captain Hook.

Slipper Day is the teachers' favorite dress up day at our school. lol Most of us participate in crazy hair, western, and mismatch day, too.

At my previous school, we had PJ day for junior high. Half of us dressed up. I wore flannel lounge pants and a long-sleeve Tshirt with soled slippers, so still totally dressed in clothes you could go outside in.

I think it depends on your school. What do the other teachers do on other dress up days?

I personally think it's appropriate and helps show the kids that you're a real person too.

that it is important for teachers/faculty to participate in dress up days. It motivates the students to participate... they love it!

Part of the reason I even ask is because a couple years ago, I did do the PJ thing and I heard a comment from a parent (directed at me) saying, "teachers shouldn't wear their pajamas to school"...I know it shouldn't bother me, but it did and I always have that in the back of my mind on these dress up days, especially PJs, since it is so casual and all...

We LOVE PJ Day and I always participate--the kids love it! This year our PJ day is scheduled for the Friday the 13th the day after PT conferences! We thought that would be the perfect day and we also made it a "Read and Feed Day." PJ's and snacks--the only thing better would be sitting on the couch!

Every Friday to participate in dress down (aka Jeans) day we have to participate in the spirit event. Every other Friday it's simply Spirit Day--meaning wear school clothing or leopard print (we're the Leopards). But the other Fridays are some sort of special event. Hat day, backwards day, pj day, colors of the holidays day, etc. I always participate b/c then I can wear jeans! Of course, on PJ day, we can wear pj clothes, not jeans. EVERYONE participates on that day!

We were supposed to have PJ day today to celebrate Dr. Seuss's Birthday. You can bet that I'll be dressed in my PJ's when we reschedule. The teachers at my school always participate in our school spirit days.

I participate and so do many other teachers at my school. The kids get a kick out of it and it goes a long way in building school spirit.

My old school used to do PJ days and other fun days (sports team shirt day, school colors day etc...) My new school has never done any special day. The kids wear uniforms, and admin won't approve a special day for the kids.

It's for charity!

Our student council has tied the "fun days" into fundraisers for charitable causes, so nobody is able to complain about them. We just had "Hats On" day- for $1.00 the kids could wear a hat, and the money raised went to kids with cancer. And our PJ day raised money to buy pj's for homeless kids. It's all good. And yes, I participated on PJ day- what a comfy day!
