I teach a small support class of about 10 kids. We have built a positive classroom environment where they feel safe to do their work but now they are getting too comfortable and social and just want to talk to one another while doing bare minimum work.

I am so frustrated with them I have created more structure with daily participation points check-in and the expectation that they can only sit with a buddy instead of all together to minimize socializingand to focus on work. They fight this structure everyday for the first ten to 15 min of class.

I am at my wits end. Has anyone else experienced this and can offer advice to help keep me sane last couple of weeks?
