I do a name glyph in 6th grade art. I tell them the first day that I grade on neatness, effort, creativity, and following the requirements. Then when we go through the process I stress the four parts of grading and encourage them to use the requirements but be creative. They draw their name in some form of bubble/block/graffiti manner and fill in the letters according to my requirements. Most of the requirements are the same as this link:
