As long as you're using Broadway Jr. or something written specifically for unchanged voices so it's in the treble range, don't be afraid to cast girls in male parts.
I did Pirates! the Musical (John Jacobson and Roger Emerson) last year, and it was a big hit. I don't know if it would be as popular with your 6th through 8th graders, but my 4th and 5th graders loved it. I had two casts, and each had at least one girl playing a male role. Most girls have no problem with it, but you can also modify the roles slightly (we changed the King of the High Cs to the Queen of the High Cs) to accommodate your girls.
