If you have a minute to share how the specials schedule works at your school, I'd really appreciate it!

For a class I am taking, I'm analyzing the different ways schools schedule specials classes (art, music, PE, media). Specifically, I'm wondering if you have (or ever had) classes that meet on Mondays and Fridays almost exclusively and if you've found a way to solve this with your administration.

We have 4 specials that meet Mon-Thur. Then, on Friday, it is a rotation that is either a Bonus or a Make-up special. This way, if we are off on Monday, that is the Friday special that week. Others are "bonus." The special area teachers make sure that all specials are equal throughout the year this way.

We have library, music, computers, all scheduled at different times throughout the week. We are looking into how to schedule this to allow grade levels to meet during the time their students are in specials. Any suggestions would also help me.

Ours include music, art and PE. Every student goes daily for 45 minutes. The classes are taught by other teachers. This gives the homeroom teacher a conference period for planning, grading as well as parent conferences.

Each year we receive a different time for these classes in our schedule. Most of the time all teachers for that grade level have the same essential area time. That way teachers who all teach the same grade level can meet to take care of planning and other team issues. Unfortunately this year three of have 9:30 to 10:15 and two of have 12:15 to 1:00, so all planning has to be done after school. The kids just rotate the three classes daily, art, music and PE.

We go to music, library, computer lab, and PE.

PE is daily 10-1045 for us
Library is Wednesdays 2-230
Music is Mondays at 9-10
and lab is Fridays 1-140

The kids miss a lot of music and lab due to 3 day weekends at various times during the year which is too bad. :/
