One of the ways that I taught inference the best is with mysteries. Students were detectives all the time in my class. We looked for clues (not right there) to help us solve what the author was leading us to believe, as well as math stories. Some resources that I have used include:
Cam Jansen Books
Encyclopedia Brown
FCRR (Florida Center for Reading Research) Centers
CTP- Posters for being math and reading detectives
High Interest Low Level mysteries (could be used in a listening center, as well)
And many more.
Hope this helps,
Amy
