Can you advise me?

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I worked at the same school for 19 years. Then, I decided to leave because of being bullied by my principal and some colleagues. I got a job teaching nearby, but it was only a 1 year position. I realized it was taking a risk to leave my school for a short term job. I also knew if I stayed I was being set up for nonrenewal, not to mention an awful year.

So, of course, the job did not continue. How would you approach the topic of leaving after 19 years? I know this is a red flag, as a principal mentioned it.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Another opportunity arose and you couldn’t pass it up. Maybe it was a grade level you always wanted. I wouldn’t say you knew it was temporary unless asked. Play it up as taking an amazing opportunity.

Completely agree with MACMama. You couldn't pass up this opportunity that unfortunately turned out to have limited longevity. I think the fact that you were at a school for 19 years is a good thing, as it suggests you have loyalty and stability and don't jump from job to job. You just need to spin it that way.

I agree with others. Opportunity came that allowed you to grow. Being in same school and position allows stagnation and you wanted to avoid that!

A similar thing happened to me. I worked at a school for 9 years and left because we were without a contract for 4 years. I landed a job I loved but unfortunately it only lasted 3 years because I got RIF’d due to Covid. Luckily I found a new job for next year pretty quickly.
