Clip to ScrapBook #1

I interviewed for a job and the principal said something like "you will DEFINATELY hear from us". (I only capitalized "definitely because that's the word that stood out to me). Yesterday I sent an email checking the status and he said "you will DEFINATELY hear from me by the end of the week." Am I overanalyzing the use of the word "definitely" or do you think that could be a good sign?

I would take him at his word, and wait until the end of the week. I’d wait until Tuesday before contacting him again.

It could be a good sign... or it could not mean anything. It's hard to tell. It might be that he's hinting that you will be getting the job. Or it could be that he's trying to avoid any inquiries from you by assuring you that they'll let you know (one way or another). Or it could just be his writing style.

Good luck!

So apparently the word "definitely" meant absolutely nothing because he "definitely" is not even going to reach out to me to tell me I didn't get the job. Don't say you'll reach out if you're not really going to. I don't understand how people can be so heartless.

It's not the end of the week yet. He still has tomorrow.

He might have meant “if u get the job you’ll hear by the end of the week” sometimes interviewers say”you should hear by the end of the week” meaning you’ll be contacted if u got it(not if u didn’t). However the way he phrased it sounded like u were getting hired, maybe he needs to rephrase. Or maybe they r still in progress with contacting references etc.
