How are you "connect[ing] students' out of school learning and lives to their efforts in school, and tak[ing] the lead in forming partnerships and relationships to strengthen those connections" if you are doing distance learning?

Some of my ideas include these

doing a virtual unit celebration - students create various digital projects and present them in breakout rooms and families can pop in and out of the breakout rooms

inviting families to do career talks virtually, especially if they work somewhere we can take a "tour"

asking for family volunteers for a zoom World Read Aloud celebration - maybe each family chooses a favorite picture book and activity that celebrates their culture and hosts a breakout room on Zoom


Is that what this component is getting at for Stage 1?

To me it would be much more like connecting a math unit on fractions with measuring ingredients for cooking.

Or using the writing of step-by-step instructions to showing younger sister how to log in on her computer and connect to her classroom site.

Or seeing the connection between handwashing & masks and the health unit on communicable diseases

Nothing wrong with family involvement, but I don't think that's the goal. The goal is making connections between experiences and learning in one part of life (home, summer camp, travel) and another part (school).

Are you sure? This criteria is found under "Engaging Families and Community" that begins with these descriptions:

Teachers communicate respectfully with families and community members to further the academic and personal success of students.

Teachers engage families and communities, demonstrating a clear value for the role they play in student learning and personal development within school.

Students’ families and community members are key decision makers and active participants in the academic life of students and see teachers as allies in their students’ development and success.

It feels like its much more concerned with community and family involvement.
