For all of you Texas history teachers, there's a lesson in our text that goes over the American Revolution, Louisiana Purchase, and how the colonies of South America gained independence. Do you teach any of that to your fourth graders? I don't see the point because the next lesson I do is Mexico's independence from Spain.

Please help! I did it last year but this year I'm thinking of skimming through and focusing on the independence aspect and how that ties into Mexico's independence. Suggestions?

When I taught fourth grade, I taught all of those events because it helps the students make connections on how governments work and the reasons behind such events. I know that many of these skills are also taught in 5th grade, but knowing the facts can not hurt, plus it gives them more of a knowledge base!
