I am currently a lower primary grade teacher and am interviewing for a 3rd grade position. What might I expect them to ask that may be specific to 3rd grade?

Our 3rd grade has to pass the state test in reading or they don't pass for the year, so it's a big year! Some questions:

1. What would you do if you had a low reader who may not pass the reading test?

2. How do you differentiate?

3. Why do you want to go to 3rd grade after being with the younger ones?

4. Tell us about your classroom management.

Those are a few we asked when I was on an interview committee for 3rd.

I've helped interview a lot of teachers over the past few years---here are some questions that we use!
Good luck!!
Be honest, smile a lot, dress professionally, and if you aren't sure about an answer or topic--just say that!! It's okay to say "Give me a moment to think"... Don't rush and be personable. If you have a portfolio, lesson plans/ pics of your previous experience--bring that along so you can share.

Questions:
What will I see when I walk in your classroom?

What strategies will you use with a struggling reader?

How will you ensure that all students are reaching their greatest potential?

If we don't hire you, what would our school be missing out on?

How will you prepare our third graders for the state test?

What qualities do you have that will make you a great 3rd grade teacher?

What are your strengths? Weaknesses?

I just want to say "Thank you" for the good advice. I had my interview today and it went well. The questions you shared were really helpful!
