I am so sick of the gun obsession!

A VENT!!!!!

I live in a gun crazed state and on the news today a teacher was murdered, and two schools are on lockdown besides the rest of the news. Our neighbor is gun obsessed, and is hunting after dark which is illegal and deer season with muzzle loaders isn't even open for a month. I was raised with hunting but my goodness I don't understand the obsession!

Personally I carry pepper spray. I have two cans of hornet spray in the kitchen and I'm not afraid to use them! Those things are lethal!

We have a pistol in the house under lock and key, andvca shotgun but I will never ever carry one around. Some of the kindest people I know are absolute gun fanatics!

It is hard to understand evil. My DH and I are not gun owners, never have been. We support the right to own a legally purchased gun though. I remember meeting some Texans who looked at me like I was from another planet when I told them I had never fired a gun. BTW- they were all LOVELY people, just ones who were raised with guns.

I have never fired a gun but RI is not really a “gun” state. I have no problem with people legally owning guns and firing properly. But would’t Almost 60 people be alive right now in Vegas if we had outlawed assault rifles??

city of Chicago. Yet, the gun violence continues. Criminals continue to get hold of guns. Sad but true. (This is probably true in other large cities as well but I am not aware of that history.)

1. Nevada has some of the most lenient gun laws around.

2. It doesn't take much to make a semi automatic rifle into a full. You can buy kits on the internet. You don't need genius level skills to pull it off.

3. Supposedly he had 19 rifles in the room. If they were M16s with a magazine (30 rounds of ammo), thats 570 bullets right there. Duct tape two magazines end to end, he could theoretically have 1,114 bullets to make mayhem.

4. There is a possibility all those guns are legal (semi automatic), brought into the room legally (unloaded, locked in a gun case with the ammo in a separate box). Vegas has tons of gun shows. It wouldn't be unusual for a dealer or purchaser having that big of a stock pile if it was disesmble, locked up with no ammo.

I'm surprised with the quanity of potential ammo more people weren't killed.

My neighbor is a prepper fanatic, and the amount of fire power he has legally is mind blowing.

modified the weapons

I'm not positive, but I believe I heard on the news that the Nevada active shooter had modified the rifles. I don't know how they were modified, what they were originally and what he changed them into. The problem will always be not the guns but the people. I don't believe it is something we will ever be able to fix, and things just get crazier!

Laws don't seem to help I wish they would. I'm going to be all psychology class here and say it's people being isolated. These are the ones who do mass shootings usually. Urban shootings are impulse control issues and I'd venture to say that most of those perps are crack babies. They are one or two a night now in Tulsa.

Guns + lack of community support is a big factor. I hate it when they jump on the mentally ill. Most mentally ill just want to be left alone and they hate guns. Some people are just evil.

My sil collects guns..their value will NEVER go down and I have no problem with it. I just don't like these yahoos showing off with them, like I see here, and the bragging. You'd have to live here I guess to get the full effect. I prefer to walk softly and carry a big stick.

And why would a person need a silencer? Isn't this currently before congress?

The law legalizing silencers? Congress does whatever the gun lobby wants and this is what they want. Does anyone think Congress has the needs of the American people in mind when making laws? They are all bought and paid for.

Citizens United needs to go! No group should be able to buy our government.

I agree that unless you are military or law enforcement, no one needs an assault rifle! You want a handgun under lock and key for protection? Pass your background check and go for it. You hunt and want a hunting rifle? Pass the BG check and go for it! Silencers? Why????? And yep, Because they pay the politicians off, the NRA has bought our government!! The rights of the mentally ill to own a gun also needs to be revoked, mostly because of the risk of suicide, a much greater possibility in mental illness than mass shootings.

What a terrible tragedy and unfortunately becoming all too common. I remember hearing that after Scotland had the shooting that happened at a school that the government responded with a crackdown on guns that seems to have been successful.

You all are sensible people. I am glad I found you. In my neck of the woods you and me would be called unAmerican fanatics, commies. No one needs a silencer.
